Zumeo is a food manufacturing company that originated in Japan and made it's way to the US in the mid 1970s. Realising that the US political system could be gamed to their advantage, they made large donations to Reagan's presidential campaign to help him become president in 1980. Shortly after, Reagan made cuts to the FDA, enabling companies such as Zumeo to begin skipping safety certifications or self assess risk without oversight.
As a result of the new rules, Zumeo began to pack their food with cheaper ingredients that still had an appealing taste. There were multiple class action suits against Zumeo during 1991 and 1992 as a result of customers developing chronic health conditions after ingesting large amounts of Zumeo snack foods. Zumeo publicly denied any wrongdoing and accused the victims of "gold digging" and "leading unhealthy lifestyles". Zumeo maintained that people needed to take personal responsibility for their own decisions and won the majority of court cases, with a few ending in out of court settlements and NDAs.
Several online conspiracy communities focus on Zumeo, particularly the claim that the company "appeared out of nowhere". Much of the discussion revolves around its unclear founding and early history.
One frequently cited story is about the founder allegedly demanding that dozens of bouquets of daisies be removed from a party moments before guests arrived... an incident that has taken on outsized significance within these communities due to her extreme and bizarre reaction.
Several online trolls have claimed they caused the CEO to have a minor breakdown by hacking into her laptop and having it play DAISY_BELL.WAV on repeat until she threw it out of her office window. The DAISYBELL.EXE virus has reportedly spread since then to various other computers both inside Zumeo corporate network and out in the wild.
Zumeo is famous for it's killer legal department, where lawyers can find some of the highest paying jobs in the country. It also has a well funded marketing department, producing their iconic advertising campaigns such as:
