This guide covers how to claim, maintain and utilize a Safehouse, Workplace or Basement within WastelandRP.
A safehouse is a private claim for a player character, small group or faction of player characters meant to protect the possessions of said people(s). They can also serve as your respawn point if you choose to set it as such. A safehouse can be freely shared with as many people as the owner and officers dictate. Only an owner or officer can extend a safehouse to another player.
Safehouses gates and doors are considered "RP-locked", meaning that even if you can mechanically step through the door, you shouldn’t without permission from the owner. To access a safehouse nefariously, put in a Raid Ticket.
Safehouses expire after 21 days of inactivity. Logging on will not be enough, you must interact with the safehouse itself to keep it up.
Create SafezoneNW and SE+Z and -Z next to your NW and SE Buttons. (One of these will need to stay at the bottom of the base usually at 0, you can move the other Up and down depending on the size needed)View Safezone from the context menu that appears.Add Player button in the on the Safehouse management menu.Add Player.Promote button. If you attempt to make your own Safezone and you find the area is to large for you to claim you should do the following steps.
Safehouse / Workplace ticket on the Discord. If you want a custom safehouse area, such as only one apartment in an apartment complex, a walled-in extension, or a player-built base, put in a safehouse ticket. Safehouses and bases should be proportionate to your group size, and staff may turn down your request if you’re trying to obtain a comically large area for one person. Custom safehouses can only be rectangular in shape, so figure that in to the area you want
If you want a yard space around the build, you must build a fence, wall, or other marking barrier around it so that other players know the area is safehoused and don't unsuspectingly put their items down where they can't pick them up again. Don't wall off unnecessarily large spaces-- consider how much space you actually need. This includes not making absolutely massive farms for no reason!
Base designs should be kept realistic to the area they are in, the abilities of those in an apocalyptic world, and the physics of Earth. There should be no impossible structures, or elaborate mansions built in the middle of the woods. Safehouses cannot block off roads, and safehouse walls should be built a tile or two back from the road to give drivers ample space.
People may claim SHs appropriate to the number of people it is intended to host. This is subjective and will require some use of personal judgement on behalf of the zoning Moderator or Junior Moderator. It is not feasible for one person to hold a large warehouse all to themselves, nor is it fair. A good reference for scale would be something akin to the following:
(1-3 players) Small buildings. Structures around the approximate size of a single family home. They can be multiple floors within reason. This can include a yard plot if it is fenced or walled off, but it should not expand excessively beyond that. A small safehouse shouldn't have a large farm area. An area much larger than the fenced area in the below picture will not be approved for a small building. This is on the larger side of what is acceptable.

(4-7 players) Medium buildings. Mansions, smaller industrial buildings and recreational buildings. The area can include a small farm area or parking lot. Be mindful of surrounding areas when zoning in a populated area. If another Safehouse or Workplace is nearby, you may be limited in how close to their zone you can claim.

(8+ players) Large buildings. Warehouses, schools, office buildings, prisons, etc. These buildings are intended for smaller factions or groups of survivors who are living together. Be mindful of what sort of structures you are Safe Housing in this size category, and where they are. These structures are usually highly sought after for looting and Safe Housing some can negatively impact player experiences. Generally speaking, larger groups of players should be encouraged to make their own bases instead.

Custom player built Safe Houses should follow roughly the same guidelines for claim size. There may be more leeway granted to custom-built Safehouses, but we do not encourage and enable players to make massive homes beyond what is necessary for their group size. Be fair to your fellow players, especially when it comes to walling off territory. Factions of a reasonable size can more freely claim open space with their builds. Moderators will use their best judgment on your situation when you make a ticket for the land claim.
Some buildings are banned from claims for Safehouses and Workplaces alike. The below list will detail which sorts of structures are expressly forbidden from player claim. Most such zones are barred because of the specific loot tables they offer, and the fact that they are highly coveted locations for scavenging. Some extremely loot-heavy locations may also be refused for claims upon moderator discretion.
Workplaces will only be approved once the are is set up properly to look like the workplace they are requesting!
As an Example
Each Workplace may require specifics or you may be asked to provide more things before a Moderator will approve the workplace.
Players can request to have their workplaces be made public at moderator discretion, in a
Safehouse / Workplaceticket.
Basements and Attics are available upon request. The primary purpose of a basement is to store large quantities of items to reduce map lag for other players traversing the area. If you own a shop, a large faction base, or are positioned on a main road that is frequently traveled then you are more likely to be approved for one. If staff notice your area is particularly laggy, they will perform an audit. You will likely be requested to get rid of, or store a large quantity of your possessions in a basement at that point in time. You will be expected to maintain this as a storage area for the vast majority of your accumulated loot hoard.
In previous seasons, basements were only for storage. This season we are going to allow more uses, like having a living space, or workshop in your Basements/Attics. Even though you're OOC off-map, you will be able to hear people speaking when they are near the entrance to you basement, and they can hear if you yell back. We will be monitoring this and figuring out if this helps or hurts RP. This may change next season.
Basements will be for Well Built Houses or Business. They are for "brick and mortar" locations only meaning properly constructed homes.
Cellars, or Root Cellars, are common for locations which are on farms, trailers, or other extremely old or less structurally sound locations. They are smaller, typically unfinished location designed to store shelf stable food for a season or two.
These are very small, but stocked for living, spaces designed for short-term living to ride out some sort of weather anomaly. They are cramped, but good in an emergency.
Attics can be attached to traditionally built homes of many varieties, assuming the home is large enough to believe there is space for an attic. Think tall, peaked roofs.
You cannot have an Attic AND Basement you can only have one or the other.
Anyone who has access to the safehouse or workplace that a Basement / Attic entrance is placed in can use the Stairs / Ladder to reach the Room. Rooms are located in a separate place on the map, and the Stairs / Ladders serve as a portal to access this area. Since your Room is also protected by a safehouse, anyone who can teleport there will become stuck if they are not also added to the Rooms safehouse. Make sure to add anyone who has access to the primary safehouse to the Room safehouse to avoid this. In the event you become stuck, you can request to be unstuck in a general ticket in the discord server.
